Qatari company for labour recruitment (WIZA) will provide skilled domestic workers on temporary basis to Qatari families and the families of residents as per their need and demand, according to a top official of the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs (MADLSA).
Fares al Kaabi, head of recruitment office at the Department of Employment at MADLSA, said WIZA can provide a substitute when the domestic worker goes on vacation and the housewife temporarily needs a replacement.
Kaabi said a study is currently consideration to bring the domestic workers under the Wage Protection System (WPS) so that they could receive their salaries on time.
In a statement to the programme “Watani Al Habib Sabah Al Khair”, he said the percentage of complaints received against domestic workers is very low.
He said the ministry receives complaints from employers against the recruitment offices or agencies for delaying the supply of the workers.
It also receives complaints where the recruitment offices are accused of not providing workers with desired skills.
For example, the employer asks for a maid who knows English but later it turns out that that she does not know that language.
Kaabi said the domestic workers law gave the ministry the right to work to solve the complaints.
“Domestic workers are sent back if the employer finds the help to be pregnant or carrying a disease from her home country. The recruitment office, in that case, is obliged to send the maid back,” Kaabi said.
In some cases the workers are hired on the condition that they are fluent in English and Arabic. When the employer finds that the domestic help is not conversant in either of the languages, then the employment office is required to send the worker back immediately.
He said recruitment fees are subject to supply and demand. However, the fees in Qatar are the best in the region, he added.
