LEZIMA GOMES

Of late, have you seen your friend's profile picture turning into something that almost looks like sketched artwork? Yes? Well then, it means they have already been introduced to the new app in town called Prisma. This newly launched app is reinventing the way technology can transform images by recreating a photo from scratch, rather than overlaying a filter.
Prisma, an app created by Russian developers, turns mundane smartphone shots into art. The app uses artificial intelligent cloud processing to apply the looks of master painters such as Van Gogh, Picasso, Munch, and Mondrian to your digital snapshots.
People across the world are turning simple, sometimes amateur photographs, into elaborate works of art with this new app that relies on AI technology to let users instantly transform mundane images into Picasso paintings. A lot of people in Doha too have tried the app and are in love with it. While Pok`mon Go continues to gain popularity this new app is slowly but surely winning the hearts of people across the world.
Prisma, which was first available on iOS and is now also available on Android, has been downloaded 10 million times in just five weeks. The app shot to the top of Apple's charts for photo and video apps in 54 countries, and is the number one app overall in 12 countries' stores, according to App Annie.
Prisma is reinventing the concept of filtering photos with its technology. Unlike Instagram, it does not just apply filters but instead completely changes it as it redraws and fundamentally alters your images to make them truly appear like art. Prisma does a conversion and a transformation that truly alters a picture, generating a distinct and refreshingly new creation every time.
While the concept of adding filters to photos has been around for years, what makes the Prisma app unique is that it relies on a combination of neural networks and artificial intelligence to remake the image. What that means is the Prisma tools aren't the kind of art filters that Instagram uses where the filters overlay the original photo. Instead, Prisma goes through different layers and recreates the photo from scratch.
While there have been apps in the past that allow users to add filters to footage, such as basic colour changes, the Prisma technology dramatically expands this concept through videos that create an entire world that appears intricately painted in every shot.
Jade Continuo, an IT technician, says,"This is a truly amazing app that I am hooked on to. The sheer variety of artistic versions you can apply to your photos is incredible. The extent to which photos are truly transformed seems miraculous."
"Given the number of filters I feel this need to experiment on every photo in my phone gallery. I prefer this over PokemonGo," says Valenclee Fernandes, a young homemaker and new mom.
Katie Gomes, a travel agent, says,"I am so glad I came across this app! It's by far one of my favourite apps. This one has a ton of filters and they're all free. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes creative photos."
Nitin Jhadav a Lab technician who recently downloaded the app, says,"The app was actually released in June, but has skyrocketed in popularity over the last few weeks, with Prisma-modified photos spreading on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and even WhatsApp. With Prisma, you now have your own, personal Picasso in your pocket."
Explaining how you can use it, Daniel Gates HR person, says,"It is not difficult to use this app. Users can take photos through the app or pick one from their camera gallery and then choose one of the filters; after the app adds the filter, you can adjust the intensity and then post the photo to any of the social media sites."
Currently the developers are also working on expanding its filter technology to video, with an innovation that hasn't been done before in any sophisticated manner.
But for now, the app remains hugely popular.
