THE Cabinet, at its weekly meeting chaired by Prime Minister HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani at Amiri Diwan on Wednesday morning, approved a draft law on the treatment and recycling of waste.
The Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs HE Dr Issa bin Saad al Jafali al Nuaimi read out the agenda and decisions of the meeting.
The MME prepared the draft law to keep abreast of the international environmental requirements and standards and to optimise the use of waste.
The draft law includes provisions concerning the types of waste and materials that may be recycled, the controls of their circulation, management, processing, recycling or disposal at home or abroad, as well as cases of revocation or suspension of the licence, stages of waste treatment and regulation and the conditions that must be met in waste treatment sites and facilities.
The Cabinet also approved HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment’s draft resolutions on the recycling and treatment of used tires; electrical and electronic waste; medical waste; recycling of liquid packaging; controls on the use of plastic bags;
storage and transport of solid waste; monitoring system for the water quality of the marine environment; regulations for the transfer, as well as treatment and recycling of worn or damaged batteries.
The ministry prepared the draft resolutions in preparation for their issuance as part of implementation of the provisions of Law No (18) of 2017 on public hygiene and the Environmental Protection Law promulgated by Decree No (30) of 2002, in the context of preserving the environment and providing a
clean environment.
The Cabinet also took the necessary procedures for the issuance of a draft law amending some provisions of Law No (7) of 2007 regarding the adjudication of administrative disputes, after the Cabinet reviewed the recommendation of the Shura Council on the draft law.
The Cabinet approved a draft resolution of the Council of Ministers appointing the administrative units comprising the General Tax Authority and determine its terms of reference.
The Cabinet approved a draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of sport between the governments of the State of Qatar and the Republic of Haiti, and a draft MoU for cooperation in the field of exchanging financial investigations between the Financial Information Unit of Qatar and the Financial Intelligence Unit of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
