The Embassy of Japan in Qatar and Qatar University, in collaboration with Japanese Teachers’ Association in Qatar (JALTAQ), organised the 11th Annual Japanese Speech Contest, with the participation of 17 contestants in Japanese language courses in three categories to showcase their linguistics skills.
Qatar Airways has sponsored a round-trip ticket for the first prize winner Reem Baghdady who won the top prize for her articulate speech on self-acceptance.
Diasuke Yamamoto, counsellor and deputy head of Mission at the Japanese Embassy in Qatar, praised the participants and sponsors for supporting the annual event. In his opening remarks, Yamamoto thanked the sponsors for their valuable support to the annual event.
He also lauded Qatar University for facilitating the event for the fourth consecutive year.
The contest comprised three special awards.
Ambassador of Japan to Qatar HE Seiichi Otsuka handed over the Certificate of Honor to Ali al Mohannadi of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Abdulrahman al Hajiri of the Ministry of Culture and Sports who have successfully completed their studies in Japan and helped in cementing ties between the two countries, and to Mariam Ahmed, former president of the Japanese Club at Qatar University.
Attendees at the event included Sheikha al Dosari, a Journalism student at Northwestern University, who was inspired by the Embassy’s activities in promoting further understanding of Japanese culture and language among the people of Qatar.
