There’s a growing demand from citizens and residents to establish emergency dental departments at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) hospitals and health centres.
They said pain from toothache, especially in children, becomes unbearable and therefore it’s pragmatic to have emergency sections for dental problems at health centres and hospitals.
The cost of dental treatment in private health centres is too high. Dental care should be expanded in state hospitals so that these centres do not take advantage of the conditions of patients and drain their money, they pointed out.
Yusuf al Kuwari, a citizen, said, “I think it is very necessary to have a dental emergency clinic that works 24 hours a day because toothache comes at any time and anywhere. The dental clinic at HMC has large numbers of people on the waiting list. ”
“Qatar is very advanced in providing treatment, especially at government hospitals and health facilities, but attention must be paid to dental treatment and that should be available at any time. Appointments should be available to all who needs it,” he added.
Akram Ghassan said the cost of dental treatment is very high at private clinics, so many people go to government health centres. Unfortunately, it takes a long time to get an appointment for a dentist, he rued.
“In case of sudden toothache, which mostly comes at night, the patient has to go to a private clinic and pay hefty charges for treatment. We recommend that there be emergency clinics at the Hamad Medical Corporation or in health centres for the treatment of emergency cases,” he added.
Ghassan said, “I also wish HMC and health centres to take into consideration the dates given dental patients for consultations.”
Ahmed Mustafa said private health centres that treat dental patients should be monitored.
“They control the cost of treatment, which is very high, and we can not afford it. For example, I have children who need to visit dentist. It costs QR500 per child on average for consultation and treatment on every visit. This is, of course, very expensive.”
