Qatar Charity (QC) will contribute to the reconstruction of a village in Lombok, Indonesia, which was affected by the earthquake and tsunami that hit the region a few months ago, the charity body has announced.
The reconstruction of the village will be carried out with funding from the Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD).
Qatar Charity has already distributed emergency relief assistance to families affected by the tsunami, with support from people in Qatar.
Qatar Charity will reconstruct 180 homes, two schools along with the construction of new units, a multi-service hall, two health clinics, one for women and another for children in Lombok, at a total cost of more than QR9 million.
The aid, which came with the support of the people in Qatar, included 25 tonnes of food and non-food items, benefiting 6,000 families affected by the tsunami in the districts of Pandeglang in the Banten province.
The beneficiaries of the aid expressed their pleasure at receiving the support from the people in Qatar through Qatar Charity, and extended their thanks to donors for delivering the aid which contributed to easing their hardship.
Shamsuddin, deputy president of Pandeglang, thanked the benefactors and Qatar Charity for assisting the victims of the tsunami.
Sontama, president of the Charita district, expressed his deep gratitude to donors and Qatar Charity for their efforts in helping families in need.
Qatar Charity has provided emergency aid to Lombok over the past months. The first batch of the aid included a variety of food for nearly 1,800 affected families with around 10,000 people, in addition to providing water purification equipment.
Nearly 1,200 families benefited from the second batch of the aid, which included food items and clothes.
Earlier, Qatar Charity carried out several development projects in the island of Lombok between 2012 and 2016 in the areas of water, sanitation and social housing. It has drilled 270 wells and built 32 apartments for the poor and low-income people.
