The Taiba Complex, a multi-service project for 400 orphans in the Khartoum State of Sudan, being built by Qatar Charity (QC) at a total cost of over QR10 million, is expected to be completed by May.
The 7,720-sqm complex project aims at providing a healthy educational, health and social environment for orphans, which are conducive to developing their skills and abilities. Nearly 80 percent of the project has been completed and is expected to be ready in May.
The project consists of a foundation school, a secondary school, an orphanage, an activity hall, a health centre, sports grounds, accommodation for supervisors and administrative offices.
The Taiba Complex is an integrated system that will effectively contribute to the creation and provision of a positive environment conducive to the development of the personality of orphans and improvement of their skills.
The complex will provide care for orphans in health, education, accommodation, sports, rehabilitation, training and development, in addition to several programmes and facilities for improvement of their capacities to prepare them to lead a normal life.
The complex will also contribute to the development of the community by providing employment opportunities and building generations that will take part in the advancement of the nation and the development of the area surrounding the complex.
It will also provide activities such as sports events, recreational and scientific trips, and various agricultural activities as well as humanitarian activities, including visits to hospitals, old-age homes and other places.
The number of orphans sponsored by QC in Sudan is 13,117. QC provides them with health care, recreational and educational services, along with organising regular sports and educational activities for them.
In 2017, QC opened the Sheikha Aisha Bint Hamad Bin Abdullah Al-Attiyah Model Orphans City in northern Sudan, which is an integrated city that provides various services for orphans. The city has a variety of educational, health and training facilities, and includes 200 houses. The services of the city are not limited to its inhabitants, but extend to the neighbouring population.
In 2013, QC launched ‘Rofaqa’, an orphan care initiative, to provide integrated care to the largest possible number of orphaned children around the globe. To date, the initiative managed to sponsor more than 157,000 orphans worldwide.
