The Chennai Cricketers team cruised to victory against MedGulf Cricket Club at the HIQ Champions Trophy 2018 tournament finals by 7 wickets. Altogether 18 teams participated in the tournament which concluded on November 30, 2018.
Batting first, Medgulf Cricket Club put a target of 91/9 in 15 overs which was easily chased by Chennai Cricketers in 11 overs 95/3 runs, led by a spectacular fiery knock of 39 runs in 13 balls by Basker Balasingam with 5 sixers and 1 boundary. He was also adjudged man of the match.
Syed Rafi, chairman of HIQ Group, said: “I congratulate all the participating teams for taking part in this prestigious league.”
He thanked Srinivas Gadde, managing director of Dana World Contracting Co. WLL for sponsoring the event.
HIQ Champions Trophy witnessed four semifinalists, with the Chennai Cricketers team walking away with the prestigious HIQ Championship Trophy and MedGulf Cricket team becoming the runners-up. The other two semifinalists were Friends Cricket Club and United Asians Cricket Club.
Srinivas Gadde, managing director of Dana World Contracting Company, thanked Rafi for his effort in making the tournament a success, stressing that organising such a tournament requires people with experience and passion towards cricket.
“Sport teaches us team spirit and I see amazing teamwork here in organising such a beautiful event and also in the way the players have played. Making time for cricket from their busy schedules is truly commendable,” said Gadde.
He handed over certificates of participation and appreciation to all the team members.
The tournament took place in Ras Abu Fontas Grounds and drew an large crowd of cricket lovers and sports fans.
