The Demo Day organised recently by Qatar Business Incubation Center (QBIC) was a great success with three new start-ups selected to join the incubation programme devised by QBIC and Digital & Beyond, Ooredoo has announced.
Digital & Beyond is a specialised incubator powered by Ooredoo.
The event offered the opportunity for start-ups in the region to showcase their offerings and demonstrate the benefits their start-ups would provide.
The grand finale of the Lean Start-up Programme offered participants the opportunity to pitch for a space on incubation programmes devised by QBIC and Digital & Beyond. In total, 16 start-ups pitched for QBIC General and Digital and Beyond, of which only six have pitched to be incubated by Ooredoo’s Digital and Beyond programme.
As a result, the following three, drawn from diverse industries including Entertainment & Sports, Services and FinTech have been incubated by Ooredoo and will move to the next development phase:
ASAPP: This start-up aims to facilitate and improve stadium hospitality through an ordering and delivery service for food and beverages powered by a mobile application. App users simply use the app to order food and beverages, and have them delivered straight to their seat in the stadium.
BFive: It provides a localised matching service between clients and service providers through a matching agent.
Welfair: It offers an online platform for sharing funds among trusted individuals in order to improve their financial readiness and promote social positivity.
Ooredoo, as a supporter of start-ups, is playing a major role in Qatar’s economic diversification, building and supporting a robust entrepreneurial eco-system and helping potential start-ups capture financial benefits through access to its superior technology.
Manar Khalifa al Muraikhi, director PR and corporate communications at Ooredoo, said: “We were delighted to see six top quality start-ups pitching for the opportunity to be incubated under Ooredoo’s Digital & Beyond programme, and we’re excited to see what’s next for the three start-ups chosen. We see initiatives such as the incubation programmes as vital to improving and developing the industry ecosystem, as they help us to identify new revenue streams, tap into evolving technology and ensure this new technology is faster to market.”
