Serving the community is a way of giving back. By being involved in the community’s welfare, you touch lives as well as inspiring people to engage in social service, said Jehmar Tabili, the new Chairperson of Philippine Professional Organization (PPO) Qatar, the umbrella group of different Filipino professional groups in Qatar.
Jehmar is a certified public accountant/ certified management accountant by profession working with the prestigious Qatar Petroleum and has been a resident of Qatar for 15 years. His impressive community service record includes being a past president of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Doha. Jehmar said he was bringing this wealth of experience plus the inspiration coming from his beautiful family to this new demanding and challenging task on his hands.
“Joining professional groups will serve as your steering wheel to increase the level of your competence in your chosen field. As the new chairman of PPO, it will give me the opportunity to oversee how the equally-dynamic 13 Filipino professional groups work together and contribute to the mission of the umbrella group which includes advancing the development of Filipino professionals in the country and serving the community as a whole,” said Jehmar.
PPO was formed in Qatar in March 2009 with the main objective of serving as the implementing arms of Philippine Overseas Labor Office- Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA) in the conduct of Special Professional Licensure Examination (SPLE) among Filipino professionals in Qatar. One of its purposes is to enhance the professional competence of its members and promote high-level of ethical conduct, integrity, camaraderie, and general well-being of its members.
Aside from PICPA- Doha, PPO is comprised of Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) Qatar, Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines-State of Qatar Chapter (IIEE-SQC), Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) Qatar, Institute of Electronic Engineers of the Philippines Qatar (IECEP), United Architects of the Philippines Qatar (UAP), Philippine Nurses Association Qatar (PNAQ), Association of Filipino Educators in Qatar (AFEQ), Filipino Dentist Organization Qatar (FDOQ), Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines Qatar (GEPQ), Filipino Association of Respiratory Practitioners Qatar (FILARPQ) and Filipino Radiologic Technologist Association in Qatar (FILRAQ).
Under his leadership, Jehmar said, he is aiming to have a 50 percent over-all passing rates in SPLE taking place in August 2019 and try to involve more members of professional organisations to be active partners of PPO. Bringing back the PPO Sports Fest which further promotes camaraderie and familiarity among organisations is also among the grand plans of Jehmar. More so, he is committed to acting as an effective and efficient leader of PPO.
Talking about the qualities of a good leader, Jehmar said, “Being a good leader means being persistent, obedient to the earlier leaders and elders, guided from above and innovative. A good leader should also learn to listen to others’ opinions and suggestions but must be strong enough to hold his ground in cases of disagreement. To be a good leader, one should be able to know the strengths of its members, and also utilise those strengths. He should know how to delegate tasks and involve others but be also willing to lead from the front.”
