Gabriela Cuevas Barron, president of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, has praised the Qatari legislations that have helped Qatari women achieve leadership positions in all fields.
She was speaking at a meeting hosted by Qatar Chamber, in the presence of a number of leading Qatari women working in the public and private sectors.
The meeting reviewed the role of women in the society and the ways of helping them to reach leading positions in all fields, including politics, economy, science and development.
Barron said she managed to reach this leading position due to her perseverance and diligence, pointing out that she faced many challenges and obstacles on her way.
Qatar Chamber Board Member Ibtihaj al Ahmadani said Qatari women have excelled in all fields, attaining leading roles in the transformation of the country’s economic, political, social, educational and sports sectors.
“Qatari women invested in all sectors with the support of state policies and initiatives that promote the presence of women in the private sector. This resulted in multiplying the participation of women in the private sector to up to four times since the unjust siege of Qatar started in June 2017. The total amount of investment by Qatari women is reaching QR25 billion in the local market,” Ahmadani said.
According to official statistics, women in the age group of 25-29 years constitute about 37 percent of the workplace. That percentage is 49 in case of women in the age group of 30-34 years.
Ahmadani said that official statistics indicate that the representation of Qatari women in decision-making positions is currently 30 percent.
“Today women lead as ministers, members of the Shura Council, Qatar Chamber, the Central Municipal Council, Qatar Foundation, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha Film Institute, entrepreneurial sports initiatives and family businesses,” she added.
