The Fifa 2022 World Cup will be an opportunity to showcase Qatari values that embrace cultural diversity, Minister of Culture and Sports HE Salah bin Ghanem al Ali has said, adding it would be an opportunity to ensure rapprochement between peoples.
“The World Cup will also help prove that Qatar is determined to achieve its objectives and noble goals in all areas, domestically and abroad,” the minister said in a special statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of National Day celebrations.
Qatar has provided lessons in political diplomacy and has succeeded in strengthening its position at the regional and international levels. The country achieved records in terms of establishing developmental projects, the minister said, highlighting the importance of building the capabilities of the Qatari society and achieving self-sufficiency.
The achievements in sports also signify the great leap made by the country, the minister said, mentioning the new modern stadiums in Qatar as examples.
In 2018, the ministry has consolidated the presence of Qatari culture in various Arab and international forums through its participation in events. Through its various departments and centres, the ministry has provided more than 400 local activities.
The ministry, in cooperation with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, has completed the preparation of its organisational structure,which has been approved in principle by the Council of Ministers.
“The achievements in the field of culture were numerous, with the ministry issuing 15 books and translating four others. The ministry also participated in eight international book fairs in different countries of the world. This included exhibitions in Frankfurt, Paris, Istanbul, Moscow, Muscat and Kuwait. The ministry also approved the showing of 325 different films from the Arab world and internationally. The Doha 360 website, which offers a wide variety of cultural, artistic and heritage materials, has been launched,” the minister added.
