The National Day this year has a special meaning considering the circumstances experienced by the state and in the backdrop of the political and economic turmoil facing the region, Chairman of the Planning and Statistics Authority HE Dr Saleh bin Mohammed al Nabit has said.
He said this day is an opportunity for the Qatari people to express their solidarity and support for their wise leadership, strengthen national cohesion and reject all kinds of discrimination.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency on the occasion of National Day, Nabit said it’s also an opportunity to reaffirm the continuation of national development plans and strategies to achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030 and its goals. “This is not merely a day to celebrate achievements but to renew commitment to pursue development in all fields with determination while safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and established national principles,” he said.
Dr Nabit pointed to the advancements made by Qatar at infrastructural level in diverse fields including health, education and economy. He specifically mentioned the economic developments through upgrading of the oil and gas industry and raising the productivity of the hydrocarbon sector as well as implementing multiple partnerships and agreements with foreign oil companies.
He stressed that Qatar not only succeeded in addressing the siege, but also transformed it from a challenge to an opportunity and increased confidence in the national economy, adding that “the siege is not the first crisis to face the people of Qatar, but it has a special nature and circumstances. Qatar will continue its march, become stronger, benefit from its experiences and adapt to its reality more effectively, thanks to its wise leadership.”
Dr Nabit pointed out that the siege sped up the pace of completion of business and economic projects in Qatar as the strategy became clearer and more flexible, which was to enhance performance.
Qatar also expanded its relations with many friendly and sisterly countries after the siege, he said.
He pointed out that the second national development strategy supports the country’s economic and social development, institutional maturity, development of private sector and creation of appropriate environment to attract foreign investments in the coming years and encourage investment in sectors that accelerate the transition towards the knowledge economy.
Dr Nabit said that Qatar will witness completion of major infrastructure projects in the coming years, as well as development in plant, animal and fish production system to promote self-sufficiency. Electricity will be produced from a variety of traditional and renewable sources while the country will seek to achieve added value to the petrochemical industry.
He also looked forward to the completion of the restructuring of the public sector, e-government projects, the service sector, as well as increasing efficiency of financial management, enhancing economic stability, rationalisation of expenditure, and promotion of an integrated model for the provision of high-quality health care services.
Dr Nabit pointed out that the State will continue its efforts to develop social welfare systems and legislation, focus on empowering and raising the productivity of all sectors of Qatari society while providing security and public safety and achieving cultural enrichment and sports excellence by nurturing distinctive national cultural and sporting talents.
He stressed the importance of paying attention to international cooperation and promoting global partnerships for development, as well as preserving the environment through improving the quality of air and coastal waters, recycling waste and reducing the effects of climate change.
He affirmed the Planning and Statistics Authority’s continuation of its role in supporting the implementation of the future visions of the State and participating in the development and follow-up of the national strategies.
