Qatar’s Industrial Production index (IPI) amounted to 108.1 points in October, a decrease of 0.6 percent compared to the September, the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) has said.
The mining sector saw a decrease by 1.1 percent compared to September as a result of the decrease in the quantities of crude oil and natural gas by 1.1 percent, while mining and quarrying showed an increase by 1.1 percent when compared to the corresponding month of the previous year (October 2017).
Manufacturing showed an increase of 2.3 percent in October, compared to September due to increase in production of seven groups: manufacturing of cement, other non-metallic mineral products by 6.2 percent, manufacturing of food products by 3.7 percent, refined petroleum products by 2.6 percent, chemicals and chemical products by 2.2 percent, rubber and plastics products by 0.8 percent, basic metals by 0.7 percent, beverages by 0.1 percent.
When compared to October 2017, an increase of 0.3 percent was recorded because of the following groups: manufacturing of basic metals by 10.3 percent, beverages by 7.8 percent, rubber and plastics products by 2.9 percent, refined petroleum products by 1.8 percent.
However a fall was recorded in printing and reproduction of recorded media by 9.6 percent, manufacturing of cement and other non-metallic mineral products by 3.7 percent, chemicals and chemical products by 1.2 percent and food products by 0.8 percent.
The electricity segment saw a decrease by 8.0 percent between October and the previous month, while the annual decrease compared with October 2017 was 2.5 percent.
The water sector registered a decrease of 2 percent in October when compared to
September, while it decreased 15.5 percent when compared with the corresponding month in 2017.
