As part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility activities, Vodafone Qatar held a blood donation drive at its headquarters at the Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) under the motto 'Donating is one of our values. Don't let it run out'.
The event was open to the company's employees and all the employees of other organisations operating out of QSTP. A fully equipped Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) mobile blood donation unit along with a team of outstanding medical professionals worked non-stop for hours to assess each individual's eligibility for blood donation.
The Blood Donor Unit at HMC is always in need of supplies of blood, particularly of rare blood groups. When you donate blood the red blood cells are used for surgery, kidney dialysis and to treat anaemia. Plasma is used to treat burn victims and trauma patients while platelets are used for surgery and to treat leukaemia and other forms of cancer, said a statement from the telecom provider.
"I'd like to thank each person who donated their blood at the Vodafone Blood Donation Drive. Without blood donors, many patients simply would not be alive today. Empowering employees to do good for the community is one of our core values and hope that this drive has raised awareness of blood donation," said Khames al Naimi, chief human resources officer at Vodafone Qatar.
