QATAR Charity (QC) has completed a comprehensive development project in Datyabara in Bangladesh, benefiting 5,000 people in the town and also those living in neighbouring villages.
The project, which sought to improve skills and potential of individuals and families by providing them with resources, production tools and income, has brought about significant change in the lives of the inhabitants.
Khaled Abdullah al Yaf'i, director of Operations at QC's executive management, said,"As a result of the difficult circumstances the people of the town and neighbouring villages suffered from, QC prioritised working on this project to ensure they overcame their conditions. QC sought to provide the people with the basic needs of education, health, drinking water and sanitation facilities."
The project included establishing a school for preparatory and secondary students, a health centre, a mosque, a centre for Quran memorisation, a home for social care and artesian wells. It also included distribution of farm lands among 30 needy families that had no source of income.
Yaf'i said that while planning and setting its strategies for Bangladesh, QC ensures to cover all fields, including development projects, in accordance with the country's development plans.
"We thank the philanthropists from Qatar for the initiative. Helping our brothers and sisters in Bangladesh is part of the Qatari people's religious and moral duty towards all the needy around the world," he added.
Datayabara is part of Medonghar in Bangladesh. The town is around 260km from Dhaka and has very poor connectivity. The conditions get worse during the rainy season when the only way to reach the village is onmotorbikes and boats.
