Katara, the Cultural Village Foundation, on Sunday inaugurated a solo exhibition of Iraqi artist Talib al Baghdadi.
The exhibition featured a wide range of precious art collection that combined the finest art pieces and distinctive paintings completed by some Iraqi artists and other oriental ones.
Katara Deputy General Manager of Operations Affairs Ahmad al Sayed along with Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al Thani and the representative of the Iraqi Embassy in Qatar Nawar Sadeq were present during the inauguration of the event that has attracted a large number of artists since its opening.
Following a tour of the exhibition, Sayed said:"Katara is keen to host such valuable exhibitions. This is due to the importance of such exhibitions in raising awareness about Iraqi fine artists and the distinguished work they have introduced."
Speaking on the occasion, Baghdadi said:"I am not a professional artist but I am passionate about this type of ancient art specifically Iraqi and Islamic ones, which are sought to represent the modern movement through ancient centuries in unique, innovative and amusing paintings."
He thanked Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti for his continuous efforts, encouragement and trust invested in such exhibitions.
The exhibition displayed a vintage collection of paintings made by a number of ancient Iraqi artists reflecting the history and the Iraqi culture.
The ancient ones were collected by Baghdadi long time ago when he was 18 years old, but when he was been obliged to migrate to Doha, he left his collections there. He later decided to reconsider his hobby again and to start collecting other works. The artist showed distinguished work of art collected from Jordan, Lebanon and London.
The exhibition encompassed two parts. One of them was devoted to the ancient Iraqi masterpieces of artists, in which one of the paintings is related to 1880, which was painted by Mahmoud Hassan Sami. There was another painting that is, more or less, about 98 years old completed by Haj Salem.
The second part of the exhibition included paintings that are 200 years old and were done by some oriental artists and have been classified as 'Islamic Art'.
