QATAR on Saturday unequivocally rejected any policies that contradict the principles and purposes of the United Nations (UN) and violate its Charter.
Qatar also expressed support for all efforts that contribute to strengthening the UN's role and objectives it was established to achieve.
This came in the speech delivered by Second Secretary of the Permanent Delegation of Qatar to the United Nations HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad al Thani before the sixth (Legal) committee of the UN 73rd General Assembly on the report of the special committee on the charter of the UN and on strengthening the role of the organisation.
HE Sheikh Mohammed praised the effort of the committee in that regard, saying Qatar supports the ideas and proposals that aim to enhance the work of the UN, adding that Qatar employed its capabilities and international partnerships to enhance the work of the UN and to achieve its goals in security, peace, development and human rights.
He also highlighted the role Qatar plays to settle conflicts peacefully in cooperation with the UN, saying it was a pillar of the country's policies.
The Qatari diplomat expressed the country's pride at the level of international partnerships, as well as its appreciation to the wide-ranging support it is getting in the face of the urgent challenges facing the country.
He highlighted the decision made by the highest international judicial body on the negative impact the blockade had on Qatari citizens, referring to the order issued by the International Criminal Justice (ICJ) to grant Qatar's request for provisional measures against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for its discriminatory treatment of Qatari citizens.
He noted that the court's order required the UAE to reunite Qatari-UAE mixed families, allow Qatari students to complete their studies in the UAE and to allow access to judicial services in the UAE.
HE Sheikh Mohammed said it is regrettable that the world is witnessing a trend of ignoring the provisions of the Charter of the UN and the international law, including attempts to impose dictatorial policies, interfere in internal affairs and undermine the sovereignty of states under pretexts and claims that are out of touch with the UN system.
He added that such behaviour was a severe violation of the Charter of the UN and the provisions of international law, adding that it is also a serious threat to the international order.
The diplomat said these trends and policies contribute to creating an unstable environment and help terrorist organisations move freely to achieve their objectives, taking advantage of the absence of regional and international coordination.
