SPEAKER of the Advisory (Shura) Council HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al Mahmoud has stressed that the State of Qatar has been subjected to an unjust siege since June 5, 2017, which was imposed by the neighbouring countries under false pretexts and through the use of cybercrime and hacking, adding that those who misuse cyber technology must be held accountable everywhere.
This came during the speaker's speech at the third meeting of heads of parliaments of European and Asian countries (Eurasia) on economic cooperation, environment and sustainable development in Eurasia, in Antalya, Turkey.
He pointed out that the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani called for regulating the use of digital and informatics technology in accordance with a law that regulates this field, during the meetings of the 73rd session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in September.
HH the Amir also expressed Qatar's readiness to work with UN organisations, in addition to proposing an international conference to discuss ways of regulating the use of digital and informatics technology in international law, he added.
The Shura Speaker said that Qatar will host the Munich Security Conference (MSC) Cyber Security Summit in 2019, adding that the summit will be hosted in partnership with the Munich Security Conference and Qatar's National Cyber Security Committee (NCSC).
The speaker stressed that Qatar is keen to support joint action within the international and regional organisations to which it has joined. He added that Qatar is committed to working towards integration among the countries by expanding cooperation and strengthening partnerships with other regional organisations, unions and blocs, in order to serve the interests of the region and in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 objectives and to enhance the international cooperation within which Qatar took over the Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) presidency of 2019 last month.
He stressed that Qatar would attach great importance to the goal of Asian cooperation and the development of mechanisms for inter-Asian cooperation, in addition to giving priority during its presidency to the dialogue and counter-terrorism, confirming its encouragement to deepen trade and economic partnerships, enhance the competitiveness of Asian economies in world markets.
He explained that representatives of the will of the peoples and members of the legislative councils of Eurasia will discuss in their meeting in Antalya ways and means to strengthen and support economic cooperation among the countries of the region, preserve the environment and establish sustainable development in Eurasia.
He thanked speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea and chairman of the Russian State Duma for their efforts and initiatives as well as making every possible effort to achieve cooperation among peoples and countries of the region through parliamentary cooperation.
