Airfares to a number of destinations from Doha are set to shoot up, some increasing by more than double the price, during the peak summer travel season this year, according to industry sources.
The peak summer travel season ” between the last week of June and the end of September ” is expected to see a 20 percent increase in the number of Qatar residents flying out of the country.
The sources said the increase in the number of passengers will make air tickers more expensive compared to previous years.
Adding to the air travel becoming more expensive during summer will be the discontinuation of discounts of up to 40 percent offered by many airlines by the end of June.
With most Indian schools closing for summer vacation from July 1, the airfare to Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram from Doha is expected to see the maximum increase.
Irfan of the Doha-based Happy Journey Travel said,"Currently, a return economy class ticket from Doha to Kochi is around QR1,500. The fare will go beyond QR3,500 for outbound travel in the last week of June and inbound in the last week of August."
Similarly, he said, passengers will have to cough up about QR3,200 for a return ticket from Doha to Thiruvananthapuram during the peak season as against a fare of QR1,400 during the off-season. Fares to other Indian destinations like New Delhi and Mumbai will also rise, he said.
