A number of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminars focussed on the career needs of members and other initiatives such as conduct of Special Professional Licensure Examinations (SPLE), launch of scholarship programme and gift distribution to distressed Filipino workers are among the activities lined up by the new leadership of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Doha Chapter for 2018 to 2019.
Newly-inducted PICPA Doha President Sharon dela Cruz presented the group's calendar of activities during the celebration of the 11th year of PICPA Doha highlighted with a general assembly and induction of officers and members held recently.
"As PICPA Doha leaps into a new decade of its existence, we are seized with the challenge of sustaining and even surpassing the level of excellence of this organisation which the past leaderships toiled hard to achieve. As we carry on with the leadership, the new council is guided by the official slogan:"Building Relations and Instituting Developments toward Global Excellence" (BRIDGE). True to our tagline, we vow to build relations by doubling the membership of PICPA Doha. We will be the connecting link uniting more Filipino professionals in Qatar with a view to promoting symbiotic relationship within the organisation by sharing resources, knowledge and expertise," Dela Cruz remarked on the occasion.
"We aim to become the conduit to achievement of professional competence and edge in the global arena by conducting bi-monthly trainings and seminars that are responsive to emerging trends in the industry. We will also strengthen our CPA and CMA review programmes to serve as bridge to achieving higher professional qualifications. Similarly, we will intensify our CSR programmes by increasing our scholarship grants to needy CPA aspirants in the Philippines to serve as the springboard to their goals," she further said.
Dela Cruz said the CPD seminars they planned to conduct stemmed from the suggestions of the members and from their previous seminar evaluations."They are also targeting a total of 49.5 CPD units which is more than the average required 40 units per year. While some of the seminars will be free of charge", Dela Cruz added.
The topics of the seminars include"Budgeting, Forecasting and Variance Analysis" on September 7,"Advanced Ms Excel 1 and 2 on October 9 and 16,"Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Law of the Philippines" and"Qatar Taxation" on November 9 and 23, and seminar on"Stocks and Investments" in February.
"We have quite a packed year ahead of us, and this is a handful. But we vow to achieve this for the benefit of our members. With the strong force of 15 council members working alongside me who are equally talented and qualified, I am confident that PICPA Doha will reach new heights," Dela Cruz said.
