STUDENTS participating in the 10 summer centres of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education enjoyed the educational program 'Maker', targeting students aged 5 to 16 years and focusing on refining the engineering and technological skills of young people.
Fatima Yousef al Obaidli, Head of Programs and Activities at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, explained that the adoption of the program aims at enriching the culture of industry and innovation among students.
"We are looking forward to enriching this important culture for our students in order to encourage them to create a culture of production rather than consumption. We are happy today with the 'Maker' program, which focuses on creating a qualitative generation that serves its expected future by creating individuals capable of finding distinctive solutions to the challenges that surround them," she added.
Al Obaidli said that the program has already attracted and intrigued students and that the ministry is inclined towards cooperating with emerging Qatari companies such as 'Ebtikar', which have succeeded in delivering such content.
Naif Ibrahim, CEO of Ebtikar, said:"We are delighted to be working with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and are honoured to be selected to participate in the summer centres activities this year. We have also worked to introduce a competition for the school students. This confidence is the motivation that encourages emerging Qatari companies to develop and grow."
He added:"We have worked hard over the past years to introduce the student's 'Maker' program to attract young people to the engineering field through a set of carefully selected activities on project-based learning, the idea of manufacturing, encouraging young people to think analytically, find solutions, design and implement their designs in practice."
Project-based learning is the latest methodology adopted by leading educators around the world to stimulate children's analytical and critical thinking and encourage them to collaborate and communicate to find solutions to the problems around them.
'Ebtikar' is an innovative Qatari company specialising in educational technology and designing and building the learning process using technology as one of the key tools for putting knowledge into context and linking different areas of knowledge to each other.
