DESPITE the attempts by some forces to politicise the football event, Qatar will host the FIFA World Cup 2022 at the highest level, according to Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the State of Qatar HE Nurmakhmad Kholov.
In a recent interview with Qatar Tribune, the Ambassador said that Russia is ready to provide Qatar with all the necessary assistance to host the mega tournament.
Kholov said:"As you know, Russia has just held a magnificent football World Cup, with a unanimous recognition of world experts, as the best in the history of FIFA championships. An official ceremony took place in Moscow, when Russian President Vladimir Putin handed over the relay baton for hosting the FIFA World Cup to His Highness the Amir."
"We are convinced that, despite the attempts by some forces to politicise the football issue, Qatar will host the World Cup in 2022 and Russia is ready to provide all assistance. As a matter of fact, our ministries of sports and national football unions cooperate in the field, ensuring the safety of sporting events and share expertise in training athletes and developing sports medicine."
On the other hand, the Ambassador noted that the ongoing Year of Culture of Russia and Qatar which is being conducted for the first time in the Gulf region is an opportunity for further collaboration between the two countries in the cultural arena.
"In the framework of this unprecedented event, the Qatari people are introduced to the diverse and unique culture of Russia, and the Russians get a chance to familiarise themselves with the unique culture of Qatar. Our ministries of culture have drawn up a rich cultural programme aimed at further developing humanitarian ties between Russia and Qatar," the Ambassador explained.
Furthermore, he added:"We would also like to note the promising direction of bilateral cooperation in tourism. In our opinion, there exists significantly unrealised potential here. We believe that an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism should be signed to give an additional impetus for the development of this very promising industry."
Kholov noted that there are also bright prospects for cooperation in the fields of science and education."A large number of Qatari citizens show interest in studying in Russian universities. We support the idea of our Qatari colleagues inviting Russian experts to various forums and exploring the possibilities of investing in Russian science. An important step may be the organisation of students exchange between the leading universities of Russia and Qatar," he said.
According to the Ambassador, scientific and technical cooperation has been developed through the Russian 'Rosneft' company and the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development - and a landmark event for the company with the opening of its office in Doha."This will allow 'Rosneft' to effectively implement its business projects in the region and conduct researches in the fields of petrochemicals and information technologies," he added.
