QATAR Meteorology Department (QMD) has forecast a windy and dusty spell in the next few days with the shift in wind's direction from southwesterly to northwesterly on Thursday.
According to QMD, the dusty conditions will continue till Sunday (June 10). The department has also warned against poor visibility and high seas from Thursday night till Saturday when the wind speed will hover between 18 to 28kt gusting to 38kt at times.
The report said,"Fresh to strong northwesterly wind is expected to sweep across most areas of the country during daytime on Friday and Saturday as Indian monsoon low deepens in the region. The wind speed will range between 18 to 28kt gusting to 38kt at times in some areas causing blowing dust and the visibility to drop to 2km or less especially in open areas."
QMD said that the height of the waves is expected to rise to up to 11 ft at times with wind speed reaching 30kt offshore. Temperatures during this period are expected to reach mid 40 degrees in Doha.
However, wind speed is expected to decrease relatively on Sunday, it added, pointing out that the northwesterly wind (locally called Bawarih) will continue with variable intensity next week.
QMD has urged residents to be cautious and check weather status on QMD's social media accounts before going to sea.
