THE Alliance of Filipino Journalists in Qatar (AFJQ) raised more than QR5,000 during the Photoshoot for a Cause organised at the InterContinental Doha The City recently.
Over 50 photographers representing various Filipino photography clubs in Qatar participated in the charity event aimed at raising funds mainly for World Vision Philippines, the world's largest international children's charity that has been active in various rural and urban poor communities in the Philippines for the last 56 years.
The project which features Filipino actresses Sam Pinto and Daiana Menezes as models will also benefit about 400 students of Lobo Institute in the Province of Batangas.
According to the organisers, a delegation of World Vision Philippines officials recently paid a visit to Doha seeking community's support and AFJQ was one of the community groups which expressed interest in extending assistance to them.
Lobo Institute requested assistance for its need of additional facilities including classroom chairs in view of the expected increase in student population with the introduction of K-12 programme which restructures the basic education system in the Philippines.
"On behalf of the officers and members of AFJQ, I would like to thank all those who supported and participated in the shoot. We had almost 100 percent turnout of those who registered for the project. We gathered photographers from six photography clubs recognised by the Philippine Embassy Doha. The shoot went well. All were excited about the concept of having two famous personalities in one hall. We look forward to organising similar events in the future," said AFJQ Board Member and Blink President Renan Princena.
The Shoot for a Cause was the first project of its kind organised by AFJQ. It was spearheaded by Princena together with Victor"Striker Innovation" Magnipes of Pinoy Lente Qatar, Ronnie Castro of Shutterbugz, George Babiano and Rovic Cruz, former president of the photo club TCLQ.
Members of Doha Pinoy Shooters Club, PicAct and a handful of individual hobbyists also supported the cause.
Apart from the photographers, the project was supported by talented Filipino designers and hair and make-up artists in Doha. Vhong Taasan and Roland Debuque designed the gowns of the celebrity models especially for the event while hair and make-up artists Lola Fernandez and Naivity Suarez Lobo glammed up the actresses.
D'Fri3ndz President Jundee Tejedo sponsored the refreshments during the two-hour shoot.
