Education for Indian minorities is still a big concern which needs to be addressed accordingly, according to speakers at a discussion session organised as part of launching of Urdu web portal mazameen.com.
The legal, social and financial constraints facing the minorities when they look for educational opportunities were outlined at the event.
Professor Faizan Mustafa, vice-chancellor of the NASLAR University of Law, said though Indian constitution addresses the issue of minority institutions and their education, political and legal misinterpretations of the law and constitution has created so many problems.
Saiyed Zegham Murtaza, a Delhi-based journalist, stressed the need to develop new strategies for community education.
He urged people living abroad to help their relatives and neighbours to achieve their educational goals.
"Instead of providing contributions to mediators or the institutions, every individual should look after the wards in their family, nearby homes and the people associated with them. It will not only ensure the proper utilisation of funds but also help the individuals to grow without much hassles," he said.
Noted social activist and distinguished guest of the event Azim Abbas advised people to promote education.
He also appreciated the efforts of mazameen.com for promoting the issues of minorities, especially Urdu and education.
In his address, chief guest Hasan Abdul Kareem Chougle, noted social activist and educationalist, urged the audience to direct their additional resources towards good of common people.
Dr Nadeem Zafar Jilani, senior consultant and medical director of Sidra Child Advocacy Program, said he saw a potential in Indian intellectuals in Doha who could form an effective Muslim think-tank.
