Qatar residents and all Arab countries residents will be able to observe five planets of our solar system - Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, Mercury and Venus this month as they will be closer to the moon, Qatar Calendar House (QCH) announced.
"The planet with beautiful rings Saturn will come close to the moon on Friday, May 4, when the angular distance between moon and Saturn will be 1.7 degrees. Qatar residents will be able to see Saturn and moon together with the naked eye over eastern horizon of Doha sky from Saturn rise time at 10pm until before sunrise time on Saturday, said astronomy expert at QCH Dr Beshir Marzouk.
On Sunday, May 6, Qatar residents will have a good chance to see the red planet Mars very close to moon, when it will be at 2.7 degrees southern moon's centre. Qatar residents can see Mars and moon together with naked eye over eastern horizon of Doha sky from Mars rise time until before sunrise time of Monday, May 7.
Mercury will come close to moon on Sunday, May 13, when an angular distance between moon and Mars will be 2.4 degrees. Qatar residents will be able to observe Mercury with moon over eastern horizon of Doha dawn sky from Mercury rise time till the sunrise time on Monday, May 14.
Dr Marzouk added that the brightest planet Venus will be at five degrees northern new crescent of Ramadan on Thursday, May 17 when Qatar resident will have a chance to observe Venus and moon together with naked eyes over western horizon of Qatar sky after sunset time till the time set of new crescent.
The giant planet Jupiter will approach moon on Sunday, May 27, when the angular distance between Jupiter and moon will be four degrees.
