Foreign Affairs Vice-Minister of Panama Maria Luisa Navarro visited the 4th International Schools Arabic Debating Championship (ISADC) at Qatar National Convention Center in Doha.
She expressed her delight at the participation of Panama in the championship."It was a great surprise as I met the members of the team and felt their readiness to do their best," she said.
Navarro said,"The team members come from a city where a large Arab community lives and I feel very optimistic that they will get high scores."
Speaking about future plans of Panama in the field of debate, Navarro said the country is encouraging young people to practise the art of debating. This is the second time Panama will take part in the ISADC, Navarro added. She also expressed gratitude to Qatar and its government for the generous hospitality.
The Russian and Canadian delegations participating in the ISADC praised the outstanding performance of the students in the first round and the remarkable organisation and arrangements made by QatarDebate Center.
They emphasised the significance of the motions put forward in the debate rounds, which contributed to increasing students' awareness about various political, health and sports issues.
They stressed that the championship contributes to disseminate the Arabic language, broaden critical thinking skills and educate students on respecting differences of opinion.
Russian Team Coach Ismail Gondolin expressed thanks to QatarDebate for offering an opportunity to participate in the championship."This is our first participation and I hope it contributes to the enhancement of bilateral ties between Russia and Qatar, especially in the field of education."
Canadian team coach Bahja Mahmoud said that this is the second time that the Canadian team is participating in the ISADC, pointing out that the championship has seen great progress this year.
She said the ISADC has been extremely beneficial for her in terms of training methods and ways of dealing with students and pointed out that the objectives of QatarDebate Center to spread the culture of respecting the other's opinion are being fulfilled.
"The issues raised for debate this year suits all levels and they include sports, health and political issues," Mahmoud added.
