A PAINTING exhibition documenting the third voyage of 'Fath Al Khair' held recently as part of the 7th edition of the Katara Dhow Festival opened at the Cultural Village Katara in Doha on Sunday.
The exhibition featuring about 50 works by noted Qatari artist Fahad al Maadid is being held under the auspices of the General Manager of Katara Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti and will continue until February 28.
The voyage carried messages of peace and love to Kuwait and Oman and the artworks displayed at the exhibition reflect the major events of the voyage.
"This is my first exhibition and I am excited about it. It was a great challenge to tell the story of the voyage through my works as nobody has done it before. But then, the voyage sought to convey the messages of love and peace to our brothers in Kuwait and Oman and I focused on that," Maadid said.
He added that his works are based on his visit to different places and meetings with the people there.
"I used the English ink and the English handmade paper for their high quality to create my works. I also created them on the spot," he further said.
He pointed out that the idea was also to revive the old method of documenting events before cameras were invented where painters or poets documented events through their creations.
Moreover, Sulaiti also opened the 'Emergence of art from desert' exhibition which focuses on supporting the young and amateur artists. Eleven students and graduates from the Al Jazeera Academy participated in the exhibition featuring 55 artworks.
The artists participating in the exhibition are Jawhara al Mana and Khalid al Muraikhi.
Jawhara, a graduate who has contributed seven artworks to the exhibition, said:"My artworks focus on beauty of the flora and fauna in Qatar."
Khalid has displayed nine expressive portraits at the exhibition.
