With the summer getting hotter, the Ministry of Labour on Wednesday announced that outdoor work from 10 am to 3:30 pm in Qatar will remain banned from June 1 to September 15. This also applies to work in shaded places that are not equipped with appropriate ventilation
The decision obliges companies and institutions that have work sites under direct sunlight, to put a schedule in a visible place that is easy for all workers to view, specifying the daily working hours, in accordance with the provisions of the aforementioned decision.
The decision prohibits work in the morning period after ten in the morning until three thirty in the afternoon, for work performed in open outdoor workplaces, and shaded places that are not equipped with appropriate ventilation, while workers return to their work in open outdoor workplaces in the evening after the hour Half past three in the afternoon.
The decision obliges companies and institutions that have work sites under direct sunlight, to put a schedule in a visible place that is easy for all workers to view, specifying the daily working hours, in accordance with the provisions of the aforementioned decision.
In this context, the labor inspection teams in the Ministry have implemented, since the middle of this month, the annual awareness campaign, prior to the start of the implementation of the ban on work in open places during the summer, by distributing awareness leaflets to workers in various work sites throughout the country, in addition to holding seminars and awareness meetings for workers. and companies.
The ministry called on the owners of companies not to violate the provisions of the decision, and the need to implement it in order to preserve the safety and health of workers during the summer period, while legal measures will be taken for companies violating the decision.
Labor inspection teams will also conduct field visits to companies' sites; To ensure that they comply with the provisions of the decision in the coming months.
The implementation of these annual procedures stems from the ministry’s keenness to ensure the health and safety of workers in the work environment, taking into account the provision of work equipment with the best occupational safety and health standards.
Hussein Al-Hababi, Director of the Labor Inspection Department, confirmed that the Ministry of Labor annually undertakes awareness-raising efforts before the start of implementing the decision to ban work in open places during the summer period, noting that implementing the heat stress decision is important to ensure the safety of workers, and create a healthy and safe work environment.
He explained that the efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Labor over the past years, through awareness campaigns and preventive measures, contributed to reducing the number of people suffering from heat stress-related disorders.
For his part, Mr. Zayed Suhail Al Mazrouei, Head of the Occupational Safety and Health Department at the Ministry of Labor, stated that all employers during the summer period must assess risks at work sites, and conduct the necessary medical examinations for workers; To ensure their health, noting the need for all companies to implement the necessary precautions to protect workers from the risks of heat stress.
Al Mazrouei stressed that the inspection teams will take all legal measures against companies violating the provisions of the decision, by closing work sites, praising the companies that are committed to the provisions of the law and the decision, which aims to reduce injuries and secure an appropriate work environment.
