HH the Amir Cup final at the newly built Al Thumama Stadium between Al Sadd and Al Rayyan on October 22 at 7pm will once again underline Qatar's readiness and preparedness for the forthcoming FIFA World Cup 2022, according to the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) -- the entity responsbile for overseeing all construction and infrastructure projects for the mega football event in 2022.
SC on Tuesday announced the readiness of Al Thumama Stadium (the sixth World Cup 2022 stadium) to host the final of HH the Amir Cup. The Supreme Committee revealed the latest arrangements and preparations for the final as well as the experience of the fan card and the media at a press conference, in the attendance of Director of Marketing & Communications Department of Qatar Football Association (QFA) Khalid Al Kuwari; Director of Information Technology at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy Maryam Al Muftah, and Project Manager for Al Thumama Stadium in the Supreme Committee Eng. Saud Al Ansari.
Director of Marketing & Communications of QFA Khalid Al Kuwari congratulated both the teams on making the final and called on all fans to be a part of the great occasion. "Congratulations to both the teams on making the final where the fans will be a part of the big event. Yesterday (Monday) we announced the details for the ticket sales available through the QFA website as also SC. We hope all Qatari fans as well as the supporters of Al Sadd and Al Rayyan will come to watch the final in this beautiful stadium on October 22. It will be a great occasion for all who will be a part of it. Of course all the medical protocols will be strictly followed for the safety and benefit of one and all," he said.
On the completion of Al Thumama Stadium, he said: "It is the sixth stadium after Khalifa International, Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium, Education City, Al Janoub and Al Bayt to be ready. It will also send a message to the world about the readiness of Qatar for FIFA World Cup 2022. Inshaallah, the other two remaining stadiums, which are also almost ready, shall be opened soon.
"We are ready for the World Cup and we are ready for the Amir Cup. We shall see a beautiful final between Al Rayyan and Al Sadd," he added.
Supreme Committee Eng. Saud Al Ansari said the occasion of the Amir Cup final will flag yet another milestone in Qatar's long journey of success in delivering big projects. "It has been a long journey and full of many challenges and achievements. We have had so many small successess and Inshaallah in the coming days we will have the big success on the opening of the Al Thumama Stadium," he said, adding: "Actually for us, this is another start of the journey because we will have the operational side to be kicking in after we deliver the project. That we have managed it successfully despite the pandemic and other challenges is the will of God. The collaboration of all entities in Qatar, not only the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy but the Public Works Authority, Ministry of Public Health, contractors, consultants and all the relevant entities plus our team of course just as the several departments of the Supreme Committee that were involved saw us overcoming the challenges. It's another milestone being achieved among the several milestones set since it is the sixth stadium for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and we have two more coming up soon and well ahead of a year to the World Cup.
"Qatar has had so many achievemnets and we shall have many more after the event as well. In the sports field and in delivery of big projects, and this is not just the stadiums, we have several infrastructure projects delivered at the same time.  Qatar is again and again confirming that it is on the right track to deliver any commitment it has made and not just the World Cup."
The stadium has a capacity of 40,000 fans, and it will also host six matches of the Arab Cup, in addition to eight matches of 2022 World Cup, including the quarter-finals.
The design of Al Thumama Stadium in the form of (gahfiya) is symbolic of the Gulf and the Arab region and is characterized by sustainability, as is the case with all stadiums, by reusing materials and rationalizing energy, indicating that the upper part of the stands will be dismantled after the World Cup and the capacity will be reduced to 20 thousand spectators, and will be replaced, the upper part will have a clinic belonging to Aspetar Hospital and a hotel, as well as many services and shops that will serve the people and residents of the area, informed Al Ansari.
Maryam Al Muftah, Director of Information Technology, at SC, indicated that the fan card will be approved at HH the Amir's Cup final and also during the forthcoming Arab Cup.
Al Muftah said that the "FAN ID" which will be made available to the fans will be one card that includes several services, and it will be applied for the first time in Qatar as an experiment to be implemented later at the Arab Cup.
