Qatar's official COVID-19 contact-tracing app Ehteraz on Sunday launched a new update to add another slot under the “vaccine” tab for a third dose.
The third slot will appear after the update but will remain blank for people who haven’t taken the third dose yet.
The update is introduced a day after the Ministry of Public Health announced that it would start administering the third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine to all high-risk individuals, who had their second dose more than eight months ago.
On August 24, the Ministry began giving a third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines to certain immunocompromised individuals.
Most of the vaccines approved for use in Qatar follow a two-dose regimen but a third dose has been proposed because certain immunocompromised individuals may not get the level of immunity from a two-dose regimen as individuals who are not immunocompromised.
The first few months of the booster phase programme will focus on individuals most at risk of severe infection, which includes people over 65 years of age and those with chronic conditions which increases their risk for severe Covid-19, as well as frontline healthcare workers and other sectors.
