The Amiri Diwan has announced that the Eid Al-Fitr holiday in Qatar for ministries and other government entities will start on Sunday  (May 9) and end on Tuesday (May 18). Employees are to resume their work on Wednesday (May 19).
As for Qatar Central Bank (QCB), banks and financial institutions working under the supervision of QCB and Qatar Financial Markets Authority (QFMA), HE the Governor of Qatar Central Bank shall specify the start and the end of the holiday.
According to astronomical calculations made by specialists at the Qatar Calendar House, Thursday (May 13, 2021) is the first day of the month of Shawwal and the first day of the blessed Eid Al Fitr of this year and that the corresponding Wednesday (May 12, 2021) is the completion of the blessed month of Ramadan 1442 AH.
The official decision about the beginning of Shawwal for this year remains within the competence of the Moon Sighting Committee of the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) in the State of Qatar.
Executive Director of Sheikh Abdullah Al Ansari Complex Engineer Faisal Al Ansari, stated that the crescent of the month of Shawwal for the year 1442 AH will be born on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 and that at 10 pm local time it is impossible to see the crescent on the evening of the investigation day in the sky of the State of Qatar and the Arab and Islamic countries, because the crescent of the month of Shawwal was not born at sunset on the day of the investigation.
It is worth noting that the beginnings and ends of the Hijri months depend on the movement of the Moon in its orbit around the Earth, while the beginnings and ends of the Gregorian months depend on the movement of the Earth in its orbit around the sun.
