QRCS launches charitable drive for poor people in Ramadan

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has signed cooperation agreements with Lulu Hypermarket, Family Food Center, and Al-Khalaf Trading and Marketing, to launch a big virtual charitable festival for poor families in Ramadan.
Under the drive, the beneficiaries will collect from shopping centers ready-to-pick food packs, which contain a wide range of food staples, donated by benevolent people for those most in need.
The agreements were signed by Eng. Ibrahim Abdullah Al-Malki, CEO of QRCS, Ali Hassan Ahmed Al-Khalaf, Chairman of Al-Khalaf Trading and Marketing, Shanavas Padiyath, Regional Manager of Lulu Hypermarket, and Mohamed Shafee Faisal, Director of Family Food Center.
Done individually and successively in compliance with the instructions of the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), the signing ceremony was attended by Muna Fadel Al-Sulaiti, Executive Director of Volunteering and Local Development Division, Mohamed Rashid Al-Marri, Head of Ramadan 1442 A.H. Campaign Steering Committee, and Aaron S. Billa, Director-General of Al-Khalaf Trading and Marketing.
Eng. Al-Malki stated, “As an integral part of the Qatari community, it is our duty during the month of mercy and charity to launch campaigns and projects that match the globally exceptional COVID-19 situation. The Khairkum Sabeq Festival is driven by our corporate social responsibility (CSR) towards the poor families we take care of. They can collect ready-to-pick food packs from our partners, donated by charity payers on our website. We will count the donated packs and make them available for those most in need. We are glad to have several companies as partners in our virtual Khairkum Sabeq. We look forward to closer collaboration among the partners and donors to make this great initiative a success, in the best interest of poor families during the holy month of Ramadan”.
Regarding the mechanism of the project, Al-Sulaiti explained, “The donors can visit QRCS’s website and select the type of food pack from the company they like. Weights and brands differ from one company to another. However, the price and number of food items contained in each pack are the same. Then, we will calculate the donated food packs and contact the beneficiaries to collect their respective packs from the nearest branch of the contracted companies.
Al-Marri said, “QRCS has inaugurated the first edition of its Khairkum Sabeq, which will be virtual this year, as an exception due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Benevolence has no end. We seek to cover as many poor people as we can. We can take the best out of the pandemic, joining hands to make our community better. We trust the benevolent donors of Qatar, which is known for its noble traditions of giving, compassion, and solidarity. All food companies in Qatar are welcome to join this humanitarian initiative at any time. I would like to thank Ooredoo for sponsoring this festival, as a strategic communication partner that makes it easier to achieve our goals”.
Al-Khalaf stated, “I would like to thank QRCS for allowing us to take part in this initiative. We look forward to making a difference and helping those in need, for the good of Qatari society. I wish that we can build stronger relations with QRCS and tap broader horizons of joint charitable work in the future”.
Mohammed Altaf, CEO of LuLu Hypermarket, said, “We are proud of our partnership with a leading NGO like QRCS, which has an evidently influential humanitarian role, especially at the local level. Our company believes in such noble humanitarian initiatives that bring happiness into the hearts of the poor. We will always be there for any charitable endeavour, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, the month of giving to charity”.
Faisal was happy for working together with QRCS, an icon of local and international charitable work. He described this partnership as a “cornerstone of bilateral solid relations to bolster the humanitarian sector in Qatar, covering more and more beneficiaries in a united and compassionate society”.
The food packs can be donated online and collected from the contributing shopping centers. Each pack contains 14 basic food items of different brands and weights, including rice, sugar, vegetable oil, flour, pasta, oats, tomato paste, lentils, tea, milk, dates, custard, jelly, and juices.
When a food pack is purchased by a donor on QRCS’s website, a poor family will receive a code to collect the pack from the specified shopping center. The festival will last until the end of Eid-ul-Fitr.
