Qatar's Ministry of Public Health on Thursday called on the public to adopt a COVID-19 bubble system to help contain the spread of coronavirus in the country.
"The concept of applying a COVID-19 bubble system is when a group of people that frequently meets in limited numbers does not come into contact with members of other families or groups as much as possible," Dr Abdullatif Al Khal, chair of the National Health Strategic Group on COVID-19, has said.
"Friends who meet frequently can also apply this system so that their number remains limited and fixed and they don’t come into contact with other people."
The idea of the bubble is to avoid unnecessary travel and shield at-risk relatives and friends from potential infection.

Forming a COVID-19 bubble helps you expand the number of people whom you feel comfortable interacting with, while keeping the total number of people you see small.

COVID-19 bubbles are research-proven to help slow the spread of COVID-19, because they limit the number of people whom you meaningfully interact with. Many experts suggest capping a bubble at about 10 people, which may be two or three households.

Of late, Qatar has been witnessing a rise in new COVID-19 cases. New cases jumped to 570 on Wednesday after breaching the 500-mark for the first time during the second wave on Saturday.
This has prompted the Cabinet to reimpose a slew of restrictions, including reimposed a slew of restrictions
At the peak of the pandemic, Qatar was recording almost 1,900 cases a day with May 30 seeing 2,355 cases. Since then, new infections have been on a steady decline, even falling below 200, until the start of what is believed as the second wave in Qatar.
