Qatar Museums Chairperson HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani highlighted what a carelessly discarded plastic can do to the wildlife in the country as she launched the #KeepQatarClean campaign on Wednesday.
Sheikha Mayassa shared on Twitter a video of an Oryx trying to eat a plastic cover discarded on its habitat in Zikreet.
“The Arabian Oryx is a national icon for Qatar. Over the years, Qatar has played a vital role in protecting & saving it from extinction. It’s sad to see how our plastic consumption affects our nature & where the plastic litter left at Zikreet goes,” she captioned the video.
“I am pleased to launch the #KeepQatarClean campaign with an aim in mind to preserve Qatar’s natural resources, whilst advocating the importance of protecting and maintaining a sustainable living,” Shiekha Mayassa added.
“I am very happy that we are able to realize and grow this initiative as I will be sharing with you interesting facts about Qatar's archaeological sites and retweet your activities on #KeepQatarClean,” she exhorted.
