Qatar has pledged to provide $60 million towards solving the electricity crisis in Gaza Strip, Committee for Reconstruction of Gaza Chairman HE Ambassador Mohamed Al Emadi announced on Thursday.
The amount will go towards building a pipeline that would bring gas from Israel to the power plants in Gaza Strip. European Union (EU) has also pledged 20 million euros for the project.
While Qatar's funding will be allocated to extend the pipelines from inside the Israeli side, the European Union money will be used to complete the extensions inside Gaza Strip.
On Wednesday, Emadi held a virtual meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Dr Mohammad Shtayyeh and representative of EU to Palestine Sven Kuhn von Burgsdorf.
The Palestinian PM appreciated the Qatari and European support to complete the project. He said the project would expand the power production capacity in Gaza Strip and help it achieve regularity in providing electricity.
