Non-Qatari residents and commercial establishments will have to pay 20 percent more for water consumption from February 2021, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) said in a statement on Sunday.
A service fee for wastewater disposal will be added to the monthly water bills generated by the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa). The fee will kick in from the start of the next year and will be reflected in bills issued from February.
Qatari citizens will be exempted from the fee for water consumption in their homes.

Non-Qatari residents and commercial establishments will have to pay an additional 20 percent of their water bill. For instance, if the water bill is QR300, the service fee will be QR60.

The decision is part of implementing Ministry of Municipality and Environment’s Resolution No. 211 of 2019 on determining fees for various services provided by Ashghal.
By introducing this fee, Ashghal aims to improve efficiency and quality of infrastructure services provided by the government, and to rationalize water consumption and preserve water resources of the state, in light of increasing scarcity of water resources in the world.
It may be noted that major drainage network services for people include disposal of drainage water from homes and establishments of any type, connected to the drainage network.
