Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has highly valued the strong strategic and exceptional partnership relations between Qatar and Turkey, which has witnessed remarkable growth and development in various fields and is linked to many values.

In a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in Doha on Monday, the FM stressed that the meetings of the seventh session of the Qatari-Turkish Higher Strategic Committee, which will be held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of the leaders of the two countries, will be an opportunity to develop the bilateral relations between Qatar and Turkey and will witness the signing of 12 new agreements, taking the total deals signed between the two sides to 80 in various fields.

With regard to the economic situation in Turkey, the FM stressed that Qatar closely monitors the global economy and sees this "cycle" of bumps and ups and downs in global markets, expressing confidence that Turkish politicians will make the necessary interventions to support and assist the economy.
"We are confident," he said, adding that “The Turkish economy is diversified and built on solid foundations, and this would help the economy to withstand these current conditions."

He added that Qatar is making huge investments in Turkey, and these investments are bearing positive results.

He said, “Qatar knows that this cycle of ups and downs, although difficult and complex, must end as long as the foundations are solid and Turkey will overcome it and look for opportunities that come from such challenges.”

Regarding the follow-up of the visits of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and His Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Saudi Arabia, and whether they have anything to do with the convergence of views between Turkey and Saudi Arabia, the FM stressed that this is just a “coincidence.” The FM expressed his hope that there will be permanent fraternal relations between all brotherly and friendly countries of Qatar, noting at the same time that there are Turkish-Saudi efforts to restore relations between them, "but there is no relationship between these two visits by Qatar."

On the position of Qatar regarding the Syrian regime’s participation in the upcoming Arab summit, if invited to it, Sheikh Mohammed affirmed that Qatar’s position is clear from the beginning and there are reasons for “our concerns that we expressed,” on the basis of which the membership was suspended. Syria is in the Arab League, and these reasons still exist, "and we have not seen any progress or development in the behavior of this regime and its dealings with these reasons."

The FM rejected any normalization of relations with Syria without taking serious steps in order to find a political solution to save or help save the Syrian people and return refugees and displaced persons to their homes and areas.
“If this does not happen, there is no logic in normalizing relations with this regime, and I do not think that we are in a position."

The FM explained that his meeting with Mevlut Cavusoglu was an opportunity to discuss regional developments, coordinate positions between the two countries, and talk about various regional issues, especially the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, and how to work and coordinate together to enhance humanitarian, political and economic efforts and unify the international community's visions regarding this issue. He pointing out that Qatar is working with Turkey and the interim government in Afghanistan to reach an agreement to restore the normal operation of Kabul Airport.
