His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani called on G20 leaders and the international community to adopt a practical approach to the Afghan issue.
“Experience has shown that isolation and siege lead to polarization of positions and sharp reactions, while dialogue and cooperation can lead to moderation and constructive settlements,” he said, while addressing the G20 extraordinary meeting on Afghanistan, held virtually on Tuesday.
"Qatar contributed to the largest air bridge in history that helped evacuate thousands of individuals and families of different nationalities from Afghanistan. We affirm our permanent keenness and our firm position to support the Afghan people and their right to live in dignity and achieve reconciliation and peaceful coexistence among all its spectrum and components. We in the State of Qatar are keen that the brotherly Afghan people enjoy security and stability. Qatari technical teams contributed to the rehabilitation of Kabul Airport within 10 days The State of #Qatar uses Islamic Sharia as a source for its legislation, and in it women have held the position of minister, judge and other public positions, and societies cannot be promoted in Islamic countries with half of the society suspended from work and education," the Amir said.
The G20 comprises 20 of the world's major economies and is an important platform to help build international consensus and facilitate a coordinated approach between multilateral organisations, including the UN and its agencies, and global and regional actors to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
