His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani called on the world to continue dialogue with Taliban as he highlighted the need for global efforts in providing assistance to Afghanistan in his UN speech.
Addressing the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly being held in New York, the Amir said Qatar had spared no effort in evacuating thousands of people from Afghanistan “as it is a humanitarian duty”.
COVID-19 impact on the world, Iran, Israeli aggression and Al-Ula Declaration also found mention in the Amir’s speech. Here are some of the highlights of his speech:
On COVID-19
Qatar has taken a balanced and effective approach to addressing the pandemic and its health and economic impacts at the national level
The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed weaknesses in our collective security system
I note here that the State of Qatar has taken a balanced and effective approach in addressing the pandemic and its health and economic effects, and experience has shown that success in this confrontation depends on the state's policies and capabilities, especially in the field of public health, as well as the degree of citizens' awareness level.
We affirm our support for achieving the priorities stated in the vision presented for this session, and we stress the need for equitable distribution of vaccines and ensuring their access to the countries of the South, as well as the need to coordinate efforts in combating another epidemic, which is the epidemic of false news, conspiracy theories and questioning the feasibility of vaccines.
Based on our partnership with the international community to confront global crises, the State of Qatar has not hesitated to provide support to the relevant international institutions and to stand with the countries affected by the pandemic, as we continued to provide medical supplies and meet other needs related to confronting the epidemic.
This difficult test, to which humanity is still subjected, has revealed gaps and weaknesses in our collective security system, and at the same time inspired us with many lessons, including the importance of balancing concern for people's health and the spin of the economy that secures their livelihoods at the same time.
Our meeting today under the title of restoring hope and our meeting in person, not from a distance, sends an important signal about returning to the normal course of life, without giving up protection and prevention, of course, after a difficult period that the world lived through and is still due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

There is no solution to differences and differences of view with Iran except through rational dialogue on the basis of mutual respect
On Israeli aggression
This year witnessed numerous Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem and the Islamic and Christian sanctities, and the issue of the deportation of the residents of Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood came to confirm the centrality of the Palestinian cause
The international community must achieve a comprehensive and just peace settlement of the Palestinian issue
On Al-Ula Declaration
The Al-Ula Declaration, which was issued by the leaders of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf last January, embodies the principle of resolving differences through dialogue based on common interests and mutual respect, and we are confident of consolidating this consensus that occurred between the brothers
The only way out of the Yemeni crisis is through dialogue on the basis of the Gulf initiative
The Syrian issue must not be neglected, and the international community must redouble efforts to end this crisis
