The Ministry of Public Health has announced that the laboratory analyses of “Al Majadwal” dates samples collected from local market showed they are safe for consumption and comply with all relevant health requirements.
The lab analysis was made after an international notification about the opening of an investigation into limited Hepatitis A infections linked to consumption of this kind of dates in Europe.
“According to related notification dates were imported from Middle East and packaged locally. Although the referred brand isn't available at the local market, the Ministry of Public Health has taken additional precautionary measures, including investigating cases recorded in Qatar of Hepatitis. It has been found that there is no relation between those cases and the consumption of dates. It has been circulated to ports to detain any imported quantities, including non- commercial, and sent it for inspection before they are allowed into the country,” MOPH said in a statement.
