Dominican Republic is keen to enhance bilateral relations with Qatar, its Ambassador to Qatar HE Georges Bahsa Hazim has said.
In an exclusive interview with Qatar Tribune on the eve of his country's 177th Independence Day on Saturday, the recently-arrived envoy said he was impressed by the hospitality of the people and the leadership of Qatar and by the development he saw in various sectors in the country.
Hazim lauded the positive role played by Qatar at the global level, especially by providing a platform to solve conflicts. He also praised Qatar’s humanitarian efforts and programmes like Education for All, WISE, WISH, various youth development initiatives, its contributions towards developing sports and the Qatar National Vision 2030.
He said Qatar and Dominican Republic have signed several MoUs, including those enhancing cooperation in higher education, technology, research, sports and tourism. The countries also have agreement to promote and protect investments and one for cooperation between their central banks. A few more MoUs are in the pipeline, he added.
The Dominican ambassador said he was happy to see interest in Qatari business community to invest in his country, especially in areas of energy, infrastructure and tourism.
He said Dominican Republic has a number of products such as chocolates, agro-products and world class cigars, which can do well in Qatari market and may be of interest to Qatari importers.
On 177th Independence Day of Dominican Republic, the envoy paid his gratitude to the fathers of the nation, Juan Pablo Duarte, Ramon Matias Mella and Francisco del Rosario Sanchez, and all the men and women who sacrificed their lives for the dream of a nation with their own destiny.
“We Dominicans are a happy nation with values. We celebrate the 177th anniversary of our Independence, attached to the hope of a more positive future — a future full of opportunities for our people, with solidarity and joy,” he said.
