Saudi Arabia's King Salman on Thursday received his first shot of COVID-19 vaccine, official media reported. King Salman received the vaccine more than three weeks after the kingdom kicked-off a three-phage inoculation programme and two weeks after his son, Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman received his first shot.  
King Salman, 85, “received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine,” in the futuristic Red Sea city of Neom, the Saudi Press Agency said. Videos and images of the king receiving vaccination were released by the state’s official media. 
The Kingdom launched its vaccination campaign on December 17 after it received its first shipment of the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine. 
Saudi Arabia has recorded more than 363,000 novel coronavirus cases and more than 6,000 deaths. Saudi on Thursday reported ten cases of the new coronavirus strain. The recovery rate in the Kingdom has been high and the death rate due to the virus, low. 
The Kingdom plans to lift travel restrictions they had in place due to the coronavirus pandemic on March 31. All land and seaports will reopen, allowing entry and exit of all residents and nationals. Preventative measures set by authorities will be in place when the restrictions lift. A total of 137,862 people have received the vaccine jab as of January 7.
