From the inside of a truck tyre to refrigerated fruit containers, smugglers have found no space too weird to hide the illicit products they attempt to smuggle into Qatar.

Having poured cold water on three recent attempts to spirit hashish into Qatar through the Ruwais Port, the Maritime Customs Administration has foiled yet another attempt.
This time, the contraband was found inside a truck’s rear guard rail, which stops cars and bikes from going underneath the truck in an accident.

In a tweet on Thursday, Qatar Customs said hashish was found stuffed inside tube-shaped casings hidden inside the hollow guard rail.
A video released by the authorities shows an official pulling three linked tube casings out of guard rail.

In total, nine packages were recovered from the casings and they contained 8.4 kilos of hashish, the tweet said.
On September 14, Qatar Customs had seized 26 packages with 26.10 kilograms of hashish from metal boxes inside refrigerated fruit containers being shipped through the Ruwais Port. This happened a few days after another 26 packages with 26.15 kilograms of hashish were similarly seized from fruit containers.
Earlier in September, 45.5 kilograms of hashish was seized from the spare tyre of a refrigerated truck.
Recently, the Air Freight division of the General Directorate of Customs foiled an attempt to smuggle large quantities of banned captagon drug pills into Qatar. The contraband was concealed in a shipment of tablets and a total of 34,990 pills were seized.
Captagon was first manufactured in 1961 as an alternative to amphetamine and methamphetamine used at the time to treat narcolepsy, fatigue, and the behavioral disorder "minimal brain dysfunction".
It is now being commonly used by fighters to help them stay awake for days and numb their senses. This gives them stamina for long battles and allowing them to kill with abandon, according to media reports.
Hasish or hash is the most potent and concentrated form of cannabis. Hash contains very high levels of THC or tetrahydrocannabinol — the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis. The THC level in hash is usually much higher than marijuana, which may generally have a potency of 10 to 20 percent. Meanwhile, the THC levels in hashish can range from 20 percent to 60 percent. This means that it will take much less hashish than marijuana to achieve psychoactive effects.
