‘Social Media: Pros and Cons,’ the latest book in Urdu written by Nadeem Mahir, a renowned Indian poet in Doha, was released at an event held at Hotel Asiana recently. The programme, organised by Anjuman Muhiban-e-Hind, was presided over by Z K Faizan, a lawyer at the Supreme Court of India.

Nadeem Mahir, in his book, discusses one of the burning topics of the modern world: social media. Every individual living in this era of the global village intends to know and keep updated on the right use of social media and its benefits to develop a well-informed society. He also discusses the darkest side of social media platforms, the fear of hacking and losing personal data, as well as financial crimes, which are very common, with thousands of innocent users losing their hard-earned money every day. In his book, readers can benefit from hot topics of today, such as artificial intelligence, the positive aspects of social media, and other fruitful benefits.

Nadeem Mahir is a very simple man, born in his beloved city of Bulandshahr in Gulaothi, Uttar Pradesh (India), despite the fact that he belongs to a well-versed family. He is always seen with a decent smile and a pleasant face at all poetry expositions, exhibiting zeal and expectation.

Nadeem Mahir’s contributions cannot be ignored in Urdu poetry, not only confined to Qatar, but his efforts have also been appreciated in the Gulf region and India. Despite his busy schedule of job, family commitments, and personal writing, he spares time and dedicates himself to promoting the Urdu language among people, where he gets augmented by these literary activities. Currently, he is serving as the president of ‘Anjuman Muhibban-e-Urdu Hind Qatar,’ an active literary organisation.

During the book launch, a farewell was given to Qamaruzman Bhatti, the president of Majlis Farogh-e-Urdu Adab, Doha, who is leaving Qatar for good. After that, a poetry Mushaira was also arranged where local poets recited their poetry and entertained the audience. Ibrahim Khan Kamal, Atiq Anzar, Ahmed Ashfaque, Aziz Nabil, Obaid Tahir, Aqil Mehmoud, Osama Shamsi, and Dr Moin were among the renowned personalities from various communities who were present at the book launch.
