AFG College with the University of Aberdeen held a workshop at their campus in Doha, designed to promote greater awareness of diabetes and to provide information and tips on its prevention.

With the increasing numbers of people being diagnosed with diabetes within the local community, AFG College as part of its campaign and commitment to foster greater awareness of the prevalence of the disease, launched the first in a series of events that will discuss pertinent health-related issues here in Qatar. The event attracted a diverse group of attendees from both public and private healthcare providers, as well as members of the public interested in diabetes and prevention.

A number of recent reports have confirmed that Qatar is now recognised as having one of the highest rates of diabetes in the world. By recognising the seriousness of the situation, AFG College with the University of Aberdeen is committed through education, whether by way of workshops, or nutritional and wellness programmes, to raising awareness and tackling the issues. This particular event gave attendees a glimpse into the theoretical concepts as well as practical exercises of understanding effective prevention strategies designed for the local population.

Dr Simon Bishop, the programme leader for the new Master of Public Health degree at AFG College, said: “We are delighted with the enthusiastic response to this workshop. The diverse mix of attendees reflects the collective commitment to addressing the challenge of diabetes prevention in Qatar. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical tools, we aim to empower individuals to take proactive steps towards a healthier, diabetes-resilient future.”

The workshop also afforded attendees the opportunity to network and exchange knowledge amongst their peers, further developing and strengthening the collaborative efforts needed to combat diabetes here in Qatar.
