Qatar's hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2022 is not up for discussion or negotiation, Director of the Government Communications Office HE Sheikh Saif bin Ahmed bin Saif al Thani has reaffirmed.
"The UAE's demand that Qatar give up hosting the World Cup shows their illegal blockade on Qatar is founded on petty jealousy, not real concerns," Sheikh Saif in a press statement.
"Their weak attempts to tie the hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup to the illegal blockade show their desperation to justify the inhumane action. There has never been a legitimate reason for the illegal blockade on Qatar, and this is further proof of that. The UAE's demand is a clear attempt to undermine our independence. The World Cup, like our sovereignty, is not up for discussion or negotiation," he asserted.
Sheikh Saif said Qatar will host the first World Cup of the Middle East and its positive benefits will extend beyond Qatar to the entire region.
