Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has reiterated that Qatar seeks to support the parties to the talks to revive the nuclear agreement to reach a fair agreement for all, taking into account the concerns of all parties.

In a joint press conference with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the FM said his visit to Tehran comes amidst many regional challenges. He said it is important that there be constructive efforts from all neighbouring countries to make nuclear negotiations and regional dialogue a success.

The FM said he had heard from the Iranian minister his country's emphasis on the importance of all parties' commitment to the nuclear agreement.

Sheikh Mohammed stressed that Qatar supports and encourages dialogue between Iran and the countries of the region, which would achieve positive results for the peoples of the region, adding: "We in Qatar want to see prosperous relations between our neighbouring countries, which will benefit our peoples." .

He explained that the bilateral relations gained a portion of his discussions with the Iranian FM, pointing out that the leadership of the two countries attaches importance to strengthening relations and removing obstacles.

"We are working continuously with the Iranian authorities to provide facilities and look at ways to enhance trade and economic cooperation," he said.

The FM praised the cooperation between the concerned authorities in the two countries regarding the procedures of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and reiterated Qatar's welcome to Iranian fans to attend the tournament.

For his part, the Iranian Foreign Minister welcomed the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to Tehran, and said: “We had constructive discussions on some bilateral and regional issues.”

Abdollahian considered that there is a need to strengthen regional mechanisms and launch a regional dialogue, noting that Qatar has a permanent positive role in promoting dialogue, and has taken constructive steps in this context, adding: “Qatar is still committed to this constructive regional role.”

He thanked Qatar for hosting the indirect tripartite talks in Doha to revive the nuclear agreement.

“We witnessed a prominent role of His Highness the Amir of State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and his good offices to facilitate and advance the talks.”

He added, “We are ready to reach a strong and sustainable agreement, and we did not ask for any additional requests, and our demands are all within the framework of the 2015 agreement.

“We have good intentions and are engaging in negotiations on a realistic basis.”

The FM indicated that the discussions also dealt with some of the problems faced by Iranian merchants regarding long-term residence, and dealt with providing facilities for their residence, facilitating the transportation process and solving problems arising from the conditions of the outbreak of the Corona virus, expressing his country's aspiration to work to reach the best relations with Qatar in all fields.

Abdollahian thanked Qatar for the coordination that took place between sports officials in Iran and officials organizing the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

“We succeeded in activating some work teams and we have done the necessary coordination related to sports affairs and the participation of our team and the presence of our fans,” he added.
