Ideal Indian School (IIS) has taken a significant step towards enhancing students’ public speaking skills by establishing the Gavel Club. This club is one of the US-registered Gavel Clubs in Doha, Qatar, and is affiliated with Toastmasters International. It has attracted 45 student members from classes VII to XII who are enthusiastic about improving their oratory skills.

The club’s activities include organising debates, group discussions, table topics and speeches. The primary goal of the club is to boost members’ confidence in public speaking, ultimately shaping them into eloquent speakers and confident leaders of the future.

The coordination of the club’s activities falls under the responsibility of Sajid Shamim, Assistant Headmaster of the Boys’ Section, and Lipsy Sabu, Head of the Department of English.

Recently, the Executive Committee of the club was installed, consisting of the following members: President: Mary Stanica Fernando; VP-Education & Training: Farha Naaz; VP-Membership: Amna Hafiz; VP-Public Relations: Shreya Saravanan; Treasurer: Uzma Sharmeen; Secretary: Luqman Hakim; Sergeant at Arms: Muhammed Arsh; Counselor: Mohammad Sajid Shamim; and Teacher Incharge: Lipsy Sabu.

Principal Sheikh Shamim expressed his congratulations to the students who joined the Gavel Club and those who assumed leadership roles. He emphasized that these students are the future leaders, innovators, and compassionate individuals who will shape the world.
